For those of you who were ecstatic when Tina Turner make her comebackin 1984 with "Private Dancer" and then dismayed as she quickly went to thepop music mainstream, your long wait is over. The selection of songs is astonishing. When I was watching Bettyeon Austin City Limits I closed my eyes for a few moments and I could hardlytell the difference between Bettye and 1984 Tina. This record has it all.Funky, soulful, and that voice that can be menacing one moment and heartbreaking tender the next. The steelguitar on Willie Nelson's "Somebody Pick Up My Pieces" is a nice touch asBettye demonstrates that country and blues really come from the same place. The way she does "Talking Old Soldiers" gave me new respect for writersBernie Taupin & Elton John. As she showed on her last album Bettye cantake songs from different genres and make them her personal testament.I think I developing a serious crush on Bettye, too bad she's married.
Going back over the years from the sixties to current, nobody is equal to this wondrous great singer who gets inside a song so deeply that the listener is drawn in to a life changing emotional experience through a song.raw & deeply passionate, Bettye LaVette is legendary and anyone who enjoys a great singer needs to experience "Scene Of The Crime". Keep on rocking Bettye and thank you for another magnificent masterwork.
Lavette if you read this please record "Love Reign O'er Me" on your next album. she pours her heart and sole and a whole bunch of emotion into every song.
I love The Who and that song, and was completely floored by Bettye's version. I first heard Bettye LaVette singing, "Love Reign O'er Me" by The Who, on the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors.
This woman does not just sing. I bought this album and listened to it on repeat for three days straight after the show.
There is not one song that I don't like on this C.D. And Ms.
Pretty Please With Sprinkles on Top.
